Beefeater guards at Tower of London

London is an unmissable city to visit once or many times over with lots of distinct neighborhoods and world leading arts, entertainment and attractions. It is one of my favorite destinations and because it is is a transportation hub, can easily be included in most European itineraries.

Best thing about visiting London is that many of the iconic sights are easily seen within walking distance of each other in the central core making it easier to see its top hits. Here are our top ten London attractions that can be easily visited on your next trip to London.

1. Tower of London: A historic castle which was also used as a prison and houses the crown jewels. The red uniformed Yeoman Warders also known as the "Beefeaters" have been guarding the tower for centuries. We suggest booking an early entry admission when not as crowded with your first stop to gaze and at the magnificent and sparkly British Crown Jewels.

2. British Museum: One of the world's greatest museums with a renowned collection of art and artifacts from all over the world, including the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies. It is also the world's oldest public museum and price of admission remains free.

3. Buckingham Palace:The official residence of the Queen of England and a popular spot to watch the changing of the guard. The ceremony is free to see but get there at least 30 minutes early for a good view as it can get crowded. Parts of Buckingham Palace are open to view from the public but advance tickets are suggested.

4. London Eye:A giant Ferris wheel offering panoramic views of the city on the River Thames across from Big Ben and the houses of Parliament. The ride last approximately 40 minutes and is considered one of the best views in London.

5. Westminster Abbey: A stunning church that has seen the coronation of every English monarch since 1066 and is also the burial place of many historical figures. This legendary building has played a significant part in Britain's history and a must-see attraction. 

6. Big Ben and Houses of Parliament:The iconic clock tower known as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are a symbol of London and UK's government.Best photos are taken from Westminster bridge or on top of a doubledecker bus but mind your footing.

7. St. Paul's Cathedral:Designed by Christopher Wren in 1673, an impressive cathedral with stunning architecture and a rich history. Its huge famous dome can easily be seen from almost any angle in London's skyline.

8. Tower Bridge:The famous blue bridge in London that is often mistakenly referred to as London Bridge and frequently featured in numerous movies and tv shows. It is a combination of a moveable and suspension bridge over the River Thames and located next to the Tower of London. Walk across the bridge to enjoy great views of London and be the star in your own "Movie".

9. London Theater:London is the undisputed world leader in live theater and performances and seeing a show in the "West End" which is similar to New York City's Broadway with its high concentration of commercial theaters and entertainment centers should be included on any visit. Just be careful, once you see one show, you'll be hooked and want to see another and another.

10. National Gallery:Located in busy and famous Trafalgar Square in central London, the National Gallery is one of the world's top art museums containing an extensive collection of paintings from the 13th century to the 20th century, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, and Rembrandt. Admission remains Free.
